LEARNING FROM HORSES -
FROM SOLDIERS FOR SOLDIERS
Our non-profit organization supports horse-assisted interventions for soldiers injured in combat, civilian personnel and their families through Bundeswehr personnel and friendly helpers
What is Remount?
Remount Deutschland e.V. takes its name from Remount Foundation, which is a registered 501(c) based at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado, USA. Its founders have successfully used equine-assisted therapy methods to work with wounded warriors and their families since 1999. With over 4,000 sessions a year, they help those affected in the US military.
As part of a scientific exchange program between the armed forces, our co-founder Alexander Varn, the senior military psychologist at Kdo SanEinsUstg, spent a year at the Equestrian Center of the USAF Academy to learn about the therapy methods used there and their effectiveness in day-to-day work with wounded warriors. Remount Foundation is our namesake, role model and inspiration at the same time and a close cooperation partner in our projects.
About Us
Welcome to Remount Deutschland e.V., a non-profit organization, where we harness the transformative power of equine-assisted interventions to support soldiers, civilian personnel, and their families affected by post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Our mission is to enhance resilience and well-being through the healing presence of horses, the beauty of nature, and the strength of camaraderie.
Inspired by and in close cooperation with the Remount Foundation at the US Air Force Academy, we have successfully integrated equine-assisted therapies into our programs, drawing from over two decades of proven success. Our co-founder, Alexander Varn, a military psychologist of the German Bundeswehr, spent a year at the USAF Academy’s Equestrian Center, gaining invaluable insights into these practices.
We are proud to offer a catalog of different intervention methods, tailored to meet the unique needs of our participants. Our programs are designed to be flexible and individualized, ensuring that each person receives the support they need in a nurturing environment.
Our commitment extends beyond national borders. We have fostered international cooperation with the US Armed Forces, particularly with 1-10 SFG (Special Forces) based in Böblingen, Germany. American military staff have joined us in our 6-week equine therapy program, in the family week in Eibenstock, and in Couples & Horses retreats. While the cost of the interventions is covered through the salary that our team receives from the German Bundeswehr, travel expenses for our American participants are not, and we rely on creative solutions and generous donations to enable their participation.
Your support can make a significant difference. By donating, you help us cover travel and accommodation costs for participants, finance the training of intervention teams, and expand our network of private stables dedicated to our cause. Together, we can continue to offer these life-changing experiences to a broader community.
Join us in our mission to provide healing and hope. Your generosity is vital in helping us reach more individuals and families in need. Please consider making a donation today and be part of a journey that transforms lives.
Thank you for your support.
